You can do it too

Starting on 16th October 2017, the Monday Masters gets underway for everyone from 25 years and above at Charnwood Athletics Field. The UC Ginninderra Athletics Club will provide two concurrent 45 minute sessions, the first starting at 5:15pm.

Session 1 – The Warm Up (5:15pm to 6:00pm)
The focus of the Warm Up is to enjoy an athletics inspired Boot Camp training session with a qualified Athletics Coach. The activities will be based largely on Track and Field, providing great enjoyment as well as overlap to the fundamental movement skills associated with running, jumping, throwing and walking. The Warm Up will not have any stop watches or event specific training involved – it is ideal for the novice who’s looking to socialise and get fit.

Session 2 – Masters Athletics (6:05pm to 6:45pm)
The Masters Track and Field session after warm up is optional. Members looking to do both sessions are most welcome. The second session will include Masters only running, jumping, throwing and walking events. The program varies week to week to keep the 45 minutes fresh and interesting. Qualified Coaches will be available to provide advice and support for anyone looking to get back into the sport on a grass track. Athletes will be seeded according to time or distance. No pressure to keep up with a Ferrari at Masters.

The Cool Down (6:45pm to 7:00pm)
After the last session, why not hang back for a cold drink and a chat, get to know the rest of the Club and meet some like minded people.

Participation at either session is only for registered Masters Athletes over the age of 25 years. UC Ginninderra Athletics Club also runs an Open Age competition on a Saturday morning at Charnwood Athletics Field from 10:00am and members can also choose to participate in the Athletics ACT Summer Series at the AIS or Woden Park.

Come along to our first Monday Masters session and give it a try, you can do it too.

Rossiter among the World’s Best

The World Masters Games is the world’s largest multi-sport event. Held every four years, it is the pinnacle sporting event for masters competitors worldwide. In supporting the Olympic Games ethos of ‘sport for all’, the goal of the World Masters Games is to encourage participation in sport throughout life. Competition and camaraderie are equally celebrated.

UC Tiger Mark Rossiter competed for Australia in the 200m, 400m, 4x400m Relay and the 4x100m Relay.

Mark made the final in both of his individual events where he finished 4th in the 400m and 6th in the 200m.

Competing alongside Adam Farlow, Jay Stone and Jonathan Stefaniak the 4x100m team took over 5 seconds off the Australian Masters 30-34years 4x100m record, on their way to a dominant victory and a Gold Medal.

Relay for Life 2017

Led brilliantly by Captain Megan Peters, the UC Ginninderra Athletics Club team at the 2017 Relay For Life did an awesome job for the second year in a row.

The UC Tigers raised $1300 for the Cancer Council annual fundraiser.

Meg ran an amazing 44km, Luke Allard did 37km, Steve Dodt clocked 23km and Michael Daly did 17km. Thank you to everyone who contributed towards the final total.

The Club is always entering teams in social runs and if you’d like to participate with the UC Tigers, simply join the Members Only Group on Facebook.
